First Class Petty Officer Association Tacking on the Crow Image 3 of 3- Naval Medical Readiness Training Command, New England Hospital Corpsmen Third Class Justin Cendrowski presented with Tacking on the Crow. “Tacking on the crow” is a naval tradition in which Sailors take turns stitching on the petty officer rating badge, or crows, to the uniform of a newly-advanced Sailor, representing their new rank.
